The 2025 harvest season has wrapped up at Van Duzer Vineyards, and what a remarkable journey it’s been. In this comprehensive harvest report, winemaker Eric Misiewicz shares insights into one of our earliest harvests in recent memory. It was a season of early mornings in the vineyard and late nights in the cellar that challenged our expectations and rewarded us with exceptional fruit quality across the Willamette Valley.

Early Timing, Concentrated Flavors
“This harvest was the earliest that we have had in years, but that doesn’t mean that quality was bad,” reflects Eric. In fact, quite the opposite proved true. The 2025 growing season delivered ideal conditions that benefited not just our vines, but all agricultural endeavors throughout the Willamette Valley.
The season began with below-average rainfall but warmer than usual spring temperatures and these conditions set the stage for what would become an extraordinarily compressed harvest window. While fruit set was lighter than typical years, this natural yield reduction led to remarkable flavor concentration in the berries.
The Compressed Harvest Phenomenon
Perhaps the most defining characteristic of the 2025 vintage was its compressed timeline. “The harvest was extremely compressed, due to the fact that bloom happened over the course of one weekend this spring,” Eric explains. This synchronized flowering resulted in most of our fruit arriving at the winery within a remarkably tight 10-day window—a logistical challenge that our team handled with precision and dedication.
Van Duzer Corridor vs. Dundee Hills: A Study in Terroir

One of the most intriguing aspects of this vintage was the unusual similarity in harvest timing between our LIVE certified Van Duzer Corridor estate vineyard and our Dundee Hills sites. Typically, these two renowned Willamette Valley AVAs show distinct differences in ripening patterns, but 2025 told a different story.
Eric offers a fascinating meteorological explanation: “I suspect that the slightly cooler temperatures over the bulk of the summer made it so that less cool air was pulled in through the Van Duzer Corridor this year. With less hot air rising in the valley during the day, less cool air was pulled off the ocean to replace it.”
Despite this convergence in harvest timing, the essential character of each terroir remained intact. “The wines from Van Duzer still seem to have their characteristic flavor differences though, more bright and red fruited than Dundee,” notes Eric. This preservation of site-specific character, even in an atypical year, speaks to the profound influence of terroir on our wines.
Early Promise in the Cellar
As our 2025 wines begin their journey in barrel, early indicators point to excellent quality. “We have good color and so far good flavor development in the wines, but they are still a little young and it is hard to say completely where they will go,” Eric observes with the cautious optimism of a seasoned winemaker.
The combination of concentrated flavors from lighter yields, excellent color extraction, and the preservation of site-specific characteristics suggests that 2025 will be remembered as a vintage that challenged conventions while delivering exceptional quality.

Looking Ahead
As these wines continue to evolve in our cellars, we’re excited to witness how they develop their individual personalities. The bright, red-fruited character of our Van Duzer Corridor wines and the more structured expressions from Dundee Hills will each tell their own story of this unique vintage.
For wine enthusiasts seeking to understand the 2025 Willamette Valley harvest, this vintage exemplifies how distinctive growing conditions can lead to extraordinary results. The compressed harvest, lighter yields, and concentrated flavors all point to wines that will offer both immediate appeal and long-term aging potential.
